How to Make Weed Edibles at Home
If you’ve tried weed edibles and enjoyed them, you might be wondering how to make them yourself in the comfort of your own home. Well, the good news is that this is more than possible. You just need to make sure that you approach it in the right way and know what you’re doing.
To help you get it right, we’re going to cover all the basics with regards to using weed as an ingredient in edibles, as well as some recipe ideas that you can try out yourself. It’s not as complicated as you might imagine, so read on now and find out more about what you’ll need to do.
Preparing the Marijuana
Before you start doing anything else, you need to make sure that the weed is prepared correctly. This matters because in order to use weed as an ingredient in a recipe, it has to be in the correct state. You can’t just take the weed and throw it in; there’s a bit more to it than that, so learn more about this process below.
Cleaning the Weed
The first thing you need to do is clean the weed. This is about making sure that there’s nothing on the leaves that shouldn’t be there, such as pesticides. You don’t want the edibles you eventually create to taste of nasty chemicals or anything like that, and washing the weed will help to avoid that happening. The cleaning process is very easy; all you need to do is run the weed under water and give it a good manual clean. Nothing more than that is required.
After the weed has been carefully washed, you simply need to soak it. This is something that’s pretty easy to do as well. Not everyone does this, but if you want to get the most out of the weed, it’s best to do it. One of the most important things that’s achieved by soaking the weed overnight is removing any and all of the chlorophyll. Chlorophyll brings bitterness when cooking, and that’s probably not what you want when cooking the recipes we’re going to discuss later.
Next, you need to heat the weed in order to decarboxylate it. This is important because it allows you to get the most from the weed in terms of harnessing the medicinal and psychoactive properties inherent to the weed. When you heat it, the THC is activated. But at the same time, you need to avoid extreme heat that will damage the weed. So cook at around 200 degrees fahrenheit for around 10 to 15 minutes. Stop when the weed becomes dry.
This is not something that you need to do before cooking, instead it’s something to remember when using the weed as part of a recipe. In short, you need to make sure that you always cook the weed over a low heat. If the heat is too high, you’ll cause damage to the weed and the weed won’t be so potent either. That’s not what you want so always be careful to avoid falling into the trap of overcooking. It’s a mistake many people make when cooking weed edibles at home for the first time.
Infusing It in Fat
In order to use the weed as an ingredient when cooking, it’s usually best to infuse it in fat. That’s the best option because this compound can hold all the properties in the weed, capturing its essence and ensuring nothing is lost. It’s also the case that fats such as butter are used in many baking recipes, so it’s easy to simply use your weed-infused butter as part of the recipe. Cannabutter and cannaoil are popular options when it comes to infusing the weed.
You should use roughly 100g of butter, 100ml of water, and 100g of ground leaves to make cannabutter. When the weed has been prepared as discussed above, it simply needs to be added to the melted butter with the water, which should be added slowly to keep everything moist. You don’t want the mixture to start drying out at any point. You can cook the mixture on a low heat for around half an hour or anyone up to four hours if you wish. Just keep the heat low and let the flavors infuse. When that’s done strain the fixture to remove the leaves and let the butter set in the fridge. You can then use it just about any recipe you want to.
The easiest way to make brownies with weed is to take a regular brownie mix and then use fats that are infused with weed as we discussed above. This can be done with either oil or butter, it’s entirely up to you. If you don’t want to use a mix and would rather bake the brownies from scratch, alongside the cannabutter or cannaoil, you’ll need unsweetened chocolate, flour, eggs and sugar, as well as a little salt and vanilla extract. You then simply have to mix the ingredients and cook in a greased tray at 375 degrees fahrenheit for around half an hour or so.
Cannabis fudge is a very easy edible to make at home. You just need to combine milk, cannabutter and sugar and start cooking it on a medium heat. You have to keep stirring it and reach a heat of around 240 degrees fahrenheit. When you’ve done that, you can take the mixture off the heat and add some chocolate chips, vanilla extract or whatever else you want to add to it. You can then let it cool and cut it up into squares for serving and eating.
As you can see, making your own weed edibles at home is more than possible. And not only that, there’s a wide range of different recipes and different types of edibles you can try out. Aside from the recipes explained below, there are lots of others to explore too, so give them a try.
